Irene Shaw is a retired piano teacher, church organist, and junior choir director. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Emporia State University, studied organ privately with Dorothy Addy, and has kept current with music education trends by attending workshops and conventions such as this one. She is past Dean of the Wichita AGO Chapter, having also served as Sub-Dean and as Regional Convention Chair in 1969. She is a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Iota has served as Theta Province President, and has held offices on the local level as well. Through the years, she has held many leadership positions on the Music Theatre of Wichita Guild Board and East Heights United Methodist Church. |
| Workshop Description: In 1991, when the Wichita AGO chapter was discussing ways to reach young people in the community, Irene Shaw formed a committee of music educators, and the ideas gathered in that group were converted into action. With the help of her husband, Kenneth, numerous organ demonstrations have been presented
in the Wichita area. Wichita State University has added an annual children’s concert to their Rie Bloomfield series, two works for pipe organ have been commissioned and numerous groups of all ages have used the materials developed for classroom use.
Come prepared to take home a myriad of ideas that can be applied to your own situation. Benefit comes from Irene’s fifteen years of experience developing Pipe Organ Projects for Kids. Teaching kits, work sheets, and audiovisual materials will be available at a nominal fee. | |
